Those wishing to be baptized can meet a member of staff in the next room to discuss baptism. The next room is to the left of the worship center and is open every Sunday after worship. Once you have made this commitment, our staff will schedule your baptism for Sunday morning. The baptism will take place during the Sunday service. It is widely believed that lack of meaning in life creates a crisis of identity and purpose. This point was forcefully argued by Viktor Frankl in his book Man in Search of Meaning, where he observed that those most likely to survive the horrors of Auschwitz were those who could find meaning in their suffering. . As Frankl said: “A man who has a reason to live can endure anything. » A concentration camp survivor, Frankl successfully developed a therapy called “Logotherapy” based on helping people find the meaning of their lives and therefore their reasons for living.
Not everyone agrees that there is such a meaning. For many modern atheists, God does not exist and therefore nothing matters. Everything that exists is material. Period. French philosopher Jean-Paul Sartre (1905-1980) once wrote: “We sit here, eating and drinking all to preserve our precious existence and having in reality nothing, nothing, no reason to exist” (Nausea ). Similarly, for the English scientist Richard Dawkins: “The universe has no design, no purpose, no evil, no good, nothing but blind and merciless indifference” (River out of Eden: A Darwinian View of Life). As more and more people move away from religious faith and a biblical worldview, this inevitably leads to a loss of meaning and a turn toward the dire conclusions of Sartre and Dawkins. And when this happens, it can negatively affect our meaning in life, our reason for living, and even our mental health. Psychiatrist Andrew Simms says: “The deepest suffering in the lives of many people with mental illness comes from a sense of meaninglessness. . . Loss or loss of meaning in life is the most common spiritual symptom reported by our patients. It can be a symptom of depression, but depression can also be a symptom of an emptiness in the soul” (Is Faith an Illusion?: Why Religion is Good for Your Health).
This emptiness in the soul is evident in the lives of many people today, even among the baptized. For most of us, baptism was a one-off event that occurred in our childhood, but which we often forget. To clarify this point, we say “I was baptized” instead of “I was baptized.” We believe that baptism is something that happened once, not something that defines us now. This is why Pope Francis asked us, on the occasion of the feast of the Baptism of the Lord, to “learn about the day of baptism. So you will be able to remember the most beautiful day of baptism. To know the day of baptism is to know the blessed day. The danger of not knowing is losing the memory of what the Lord has done for us, of the gift we have received” (January 8, 2014).
For all of us who forget our gift of baptism and realize the absurdity of our lives, it is time to rediscover the clarity and meaning of who we were on the day of our baptism.

On the day of our baptism, we were anointed with the Holy Spirit as priests, prophets and kings. As priests, we have access to the same intimate relationship that Jesus had with his Father, and we have the wonderful privilege of calling him Father like his beloved sons and daughters. By being baptized, we join Christ in proper worship and glorify our loving Father. The prayer of all the baptized must be added to the beautiful chorus of praise that the Church on earth and in heaven constantly raises to God. As a priest, I often ask the elderly or those living at home to pray for the parish, the sick and the church. This reminds them that they have not the least duty in the Church, but one of the most important: to pray for the Church. From baptism until the day we die, we remain priests.
As prophets, we have access to God’s wisdom and become signs of His presence in the world. Prophets think and feel with God and His word and are not afraid to challenge culture or popular opinion when necessary. By the example of their lives, prophets call others to conform themselves to Christ and to Christ’s nature as selfless love. Whether old or young, sick or healthy, rich or poor, the hearts of prophets are turned toward God and his kingdom. From the moment we are baptized until the day we die, we remain prophets.
When we were baptized, we became anointed kings. That day we embarked on a great work beyond ourselves, according to God’s plan for the realization of the kingdom of heaven on earth. On that day we were dedicated to God and his work, distinguished for his work, and devoted to him with love. According to the words of baptism, with the sign of the cross, we are “claimed for Christ our Savior”. This is the first time God has taken hold of our lives, or as Bishop Barron never tires of reminding us, our lives are not about us, but about God’s plan for us. The day we were baptized, we received God’s mission, a special calling in life, a special mission to accomplish. In the words of Cardinal Newman: “God created me to serve him specifically; he gave me a job that he didn’t give to anyone else. I have a mission.” Each baptized person can say these words independently. To fulfill this mission, God has given us various gifts to enrich the life of the Church and the world. He has given us these gifts now. They are gifts that God never returns. They are given forever, but they are given in times of need. Because it is the truth, it is the life of every Christian
