That’s where team building goes.” While it can be difficult to figure out how to build team morale in practice, the task is not impossible. This game, inspired by the team at Help Scout, is a fun way to check out your teammates’ workspaces. To give it a “challenging” look, ask team members to vote on their favorite workspace at the end, and the winner can enjoy bragging rights of the most impressive remote work setup. 2. Remote Work Bingo Using bingo templates, create bingo cards and schedule quick games as a “brain break” for you and your team. You can customize it to fit your company and team below: Have your teammates submit ideas for Bingo spaces to make it a collaborative process. You can also offer prizes for winners, such as online gift cards. Another plus – Bingo is easy enough to do in a regular meeting. To make Bingo work remotely, choose someone to be the moderator. They will call out a random phrase and wait a few seconds for players to search their cards for that phrase. If that phrase is on a player’s card, they use a tool, such as paint, to mark that space. When a player has marked enough spaces in a row, he announces “Bingo!” in a video call and wait for the moderator to check their answer. If the line is vertical, horizontal, or diagonal, and matches the gap, that teammate wins. 3. Mafia Mafia is known by different names, and is often played by large groups. Basically, the game is a “whodunnit” mystery solving challenge. One of the players is a “killer,” silent, and it depends on everyone who is wrong. There are many functions assigned to the Mafia to maintain the structure of the organization, such as “Doctors,” “People” and “Detectives.” The best part about the game? Happy Hour One of the most fun remote team building activities I’ve done with my team is the remote happy hour. It’s an opportunity for your colleagues to come together and bond outside of the workplace, remotely. At HubSpot, we enjoy building deep relationships with our team members. At one point, we also organized a virtual wine tasting, where participants brought a glass of German wine and listened to a colleague explain how to taste a particular wine, and point out things about wine that are not common knowledge, such as how to make air. in a glass of wine. Participants can bring a beverage of their choice (tea, seltzer, or other non-alcoholic beverages are encouraged), discuss what they brought, and enjoy the relaxed atmosphere. If so, it might be fun to challenge your colleagues to create their own version of a popular cooking show or teach their favorite comfort food recipe! This can be done in a number of ways, but to give it a “challenging” look, choose an easy-to-make dish like a patty melt or mac and cheese. Give your team one week to film their own recipe, upload it to Google Drive, and choose a winner based on their culinary creativity. Cooking is a great way to express creativity, and as the saying goes, food often brings people together. In addition, the rest means no more thoughts to come for lunch! 7. Book Club HubSpotters are no strangers to book clubs. Recent book clubs we’ve hosted have focused on the themes of diversity, inclusion, and belonging. One of our colleagues chose a book that fits this topic, and the participants had a discussion to discuss what the book means to us and how we can transfer the ideas presented in the book to create change in the workplace. This can be a recurring event or a one-off meeting, but the goal is to discuss ideas outside of the group project. It can be a nice break from your day to talk about good books — whether it’s monthly or a few times a year. 8. History of Pop Culture Trivia What song did Britney Spears perform at the 2001 VMAs? Parks and recreation in which city? Relax with colleagues in a friendly game of pop culture trivia — 2000 style. You can come up with questions with your team, or find fun prompts online. Appoint a moderator, divide your team into groups, and let the game begin! 9. Going on field trips, you remember going with your classmates when you were still a child? They are fun outings to learn and explore with friends. Today, the field trip experience is moving to the online platform so that children and adults can enjoy these gatherings virtually. For example, you can talk to local farms to see if they would be willing to set up a remote farm tour for your team. We’ve done this at HubSpot, and it’s a great way to interact with colleagues while you’re mostly concerned with the cute pig or goat you see on the screen. 10. Scavenger Hunt When was the last time you took a deep dive into your company’s website? If your answer is, “never,” this is your chance to challenge your friends. Choose a page or tab from your company website for yourself and team members, and create a group scavenger hunt. Break out into teams, or make it a solo adventure.
