Disney World Package Cancellation Policy – Due to the travel crisis related to COVID-19, Walt Disney World Resort has adopted a policy of canceling the “Book with Trust” exchange that began last year. By May 1, 2021, the policy expires.

Under this flexible policy, guests can “book with confidence” knowing they won’t be penalized for having to change or cancel their vacation.

For guests booked on or after May 1, 2021, the “Trust with the Book” policy expires and Walt Disney World® Resort’s standard cancellation policy will revert. The policy is listed below:

Walt Disney World Room Only Cancellation Policy: To receive a refund of your deposit, notice of cancellation must be received at least 5 days prior to your arrival date. To cancel or change a reservation call (407) 934-7639 or you can cancel or change most reservations online by visiting DisneyWorld.com/MyTrip and logging into your Disney Account. If your reservation is canceled or changed online, it will link or change the reservation next to it. Just select the link to start canceling or changing the order. In most cases you can cancel a Disney World hotel reservation on the Disney website. Log in to your account, click on the Disney Experience tab, go to the “My Reservations” section, find your stay, and look for the Cancel button. If you do not have the online cancellation option, you must call Cast Member Assistance at 407-934-7639. (Make sure you have a little time; pick-up times can be long.)

There may be penalty charges for canceling your stay. Fees depend on the type of package you book, how far in advance you cancel the trip, and Disney’s policies at the time of cancellation. Hurricane is an example of when Disney changed many of their cancellation policies. The official statement about the typhoon reads:

If the National Hurricane Center for the Orlando area issues a hurricane warning—or for your location—within 7 days of your arrival date, you can call ahead to reschedule or cancel your package. Hotel Walt Disney Travel Company Disney Resort. and multiple room reservations only (booked directly with Disney) with no cancellation or change fees charged by Disney. If you have products and services from third-party suppliers that are included in your vacation — such as an airline, hotel, car rental company, or travel insurance company — you should go ahead. Changes to these supplier costs are discussed. The policy does not apply to special events or dining experiences.

Other weather events, such as high winds near your home, but far from Disney World, do not trigger the cancellation policy.

If I cancel my hotel reservation, what happens to my remaining stay? Should I cancel it?

The remainder of the planned Disney World vacation must be canceled separately – simply canceling your hotel stay will exclude you.

One of the other key things to cancel is the dinner reservations you’ve made. In most cases, you will be assessed a fine of $10 per person per show. If you have multiple reservations for large parties, the penalty fees can be significant.

To avoid fees, make sure to cancel at least 2 hours in advance. You can do this by logging into your Disney World Online account on the Disney World website. Click on the Disney Experiences tab, then click “My Plans.” Scroll through your day to view dining reservations and click the “Cancel Reservation” button.

Walt Disney World® Resort Vacation Packages

Walt Disney World theme park tickets are non-refundable and non-transferable. From Disney’s website, “You cannot cancel or receive a refund for a ticket or package, but in some cases you can use unlimited theme park tickets for a future vacation.”

In practice, this means that unused tickets will remain in your Disney account. If you don’t use it, you won’t lose it. Your ticket is non-refundable, but you can request the value of rebooking your ticket for another date. Remember, different travel dates have different prices at Disney World, so you may not be able to exchange for one if the price of your old ticket is different from your new ticket.

Note: There are some pre-2004 “No Pass” tickets that have their own rules.

You won’t be penalized for canceling a park reservation at Walt Disney World, but that’s a good thing. Although getting a park pass isn’t an issue in the summer, it only takes a few minutes to find a free spot, if one is available.

The process for canceling a park pass is basically the same as canceling a dining reservation. Log in to your Disney World account online. Click on the Disney Experiences tab, then click “My Plans.” To view each park pass reservation, scroll through your dates and click the “Manage Reservation” button. If you have a reservation for flights, bus services, Mears Connect operated by Sunshine or any other travel arrangements, you need to cancel them separately. Check your carrier for their terms and conditions.

Disney offers many non-refundable vacation extras. This includes items such as Disney ride tickets, Hour Party tickets, Cirque du Soleil tickets, and other special events. Be sure to check the fine print before making a big holiday purchase.

This may depend on the type of insurance you purchased, the reason for the cancellation, and how you must document the reason. This is another situation where reading a good book is important.
