Batam (09/02/2022) – High blood pressure, commonly known as high blood pressure. It is a disease characterized by systolic blood pressure ≥ 140 mmHg and/or diastolic blood pressure ≥ 90 mmHg. It is called a “silent killer” because it often appears without any complaints, until the patient does not even know that he already has high blood pressure. But complications or complications of high blood pressure occur. In Indonesia the disease is a health problem with a prevalence of up to 25.8% (Riskesdas Data 2013). If not treated promptly and appropriately, high blood pressure spreads and increases the risk of heart disease. Stroke, kidney failure, and even death.

To avoid this problem we must therefore have education so that we can avoid the disease. That’s exactly what Gebriel Ruth, one of UNDIP’s KKN Team I students, is doing in an effort to prevent and treat high blood pressure: educate people about high blood pressure through brochures aimed at older people. ≥ 18 years and above in RT 09/ RW 04 Baloi Permai Village, Batam City District, Batam City. The activity is held for 2 days starting from Saturday 29 January 2022 to Sunday 30 January 2022 by the objective is to increase public awareness in RT 09/RW 04 about the dangers of high blood pressure.

The activity started with blood pressure checking and then continued with educating people who have high or normal blood pressure. The activity is carried out door-to-door, and is accompanied by a house representative. The education provided relates to the definition of high blood pressure. Normal blood pressure values, risk factors, signs and symptoms, complications of high blood pressure, eating the right food and tips for controlling high blood pressure: Twenty-six people were successfully educated about high blood pressure.
All residents responded positively to the project. This can be seen from the villagers’ enthusiasm in asking for materials and advice on controlling high blood pressure. Residents also take it seriously when they receive information about high blood pressure.

High blood pressure can harm anyone. Regardless of race, ethnicity or religion, the hope is that after educating the residents of RT 09/RW 04, new insights can be provided. And makes residents more alert and concerned about their own health
