Assured Meaning To – Life is often difficult, and living with the coronavirus pandemic, war in Eastern Europe, and economic recession doesn’t make things any easier. So from time to time there comes a day when it becomes too much, when the demands on us exceed what we can handle. There is simply too much need and we can’t afford it. The challenges we face and the struggles of our loved ones can sometimes make us feel like we’re draining every bit of energy we have as a result of our burdensome work, the needs of our local community, or even our home life. How. willingly bears this burden.
We can be so shaken that our failure to deliver the impossible reflects negatively on us, and our inability to solve every problem shows a moral failure on our part. But there is no shame in being asked for more, and we can only give what we have. After all, we are only human. Our mistake is to imagine that we can meet every need. It would be the height of speculation to imagine that we could ever do that.

A year or two ago in late November, the good folks at Amazon were kind enough to email me to let me know that the deals I’ve been waiting for were finally here on Black Friday. 40% off exclusive Le Creuset cast iron round pans, 45% off Braun Cordless epilator and 33% off giant Toblerone bar. Granted, the latter had some appeal, but Amazon didn’t offer me what I really wanted. Quiet. Instead, by trying to convince me they were deals I really didn’t want to miss, they only succeeded in increasing my stress and encouraging me to keep missing.

The concept of rest is very important in the Bible. He talks a lot about the end of the struggle, not about the lack of work. It speaks of a state of being when everything is as it should be. The language of Genesis chapter 1 God rested on the seventh day. It is interesting, at least to me, that God rests not from work, but from creation. God continues to work, [John 5:17], indeed, neither slumbers nor slumbers [Psalm 121:4] to keep his purchased creature. But on the seventh day he rested from creation, because creation was complete, because all was good, all was very good.
The Bible also speaks of a future rest when all things will be again as they should be. The creation story of Genesis 1 is followed by the fall of Genesis 3. We currently live in a fallen world where things are not as they should be. Because of man’s rebellion against God, our life is difficult and our work is a struggle.
“Cursed be the earth because of you. You will eat from it in pain all the days of your life. it will bring you thorns and thistles; you will eat the plants of the field. By the sweat of your face you will eat bread until you return to the ground, because you were taken from it. for dust you are, and to dust you shall return” (Genesis 3:17-19).
This is bad news, but at the same time, the gospel assures us that “the sufferings of this age are not worth comparing with the glory that will be revealed to us” and that “the creation will be freed from the bondage of corruption.” . [Romans 8:18, 21]

“Come to me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light” (Matthew 11:28-30).
We can’t fix everything, not even ourselves, but we can go to the one who can. Admitting that we are not what we should be, refusing to pretend that we are good is always the first step to making things better.
Part of the solution is realizing that we are not the solution. Neither is our man-made philosophy. Rather, we must rely on the glorious truth that God does not love us because we are good, but rather to make us good, freeing us from the heavy burden of constantly trying to prove our worth and replacing it with an easy burden. . A yoke to receive us in Christ.
But when is this vacation possible? Now or in the future? The answer is both now and in the future. Now we are called to rest in Christ. We must trust in his finished work on our behalf, the work that led him to Calvary, “smitten for our transgressions, and bruised for our iniquities” (Isaiah 53:5). And because of His resurrection three days later, we can be sure that His work provides the future eternal rest we all long for.

Faith is not our belief that God will do what we wish to be true, but rather believing that God will do what He says is true. It is the “assurance of things hoped for and things not seen” (Hebrews 11:1) that comes from believing that God will fulfill His promises. Because we can be absolutely sure that this means that today we can know satisfaction in our discontent and peace in our anxiety. By faith we receive now what will one day truly be ours.
So today we invite you to come before God and receive from Him all that we need. “O thirsty people, come to the waters. if you don’t have money, come and eat. Come, buy free, priceless wine and milk.” [Isaiah 55:1] Now this is a Black Friday deal I don’t want to miss.
But this does not mean that we are not active, indeed we are called to work to make the world a better place, but this work depends on the fact that we first rest with someone greater than ourselves, from whom we draw our strength and energy. work through us for the good of others.
The idea of resting before work speaks to how the Bible sets up the day. We tend to think that night follows day, when in fact the Bible speaks of night after night. The language of Genesis 1 is repeated: “And the first day was evening and morning… The second day was evening and morning.” The Jewish Sabbath began at sunset. Night comes before day. we rest before work.

So we now rest in Christ and struggle at the same time. At the moment, there is tension in our vacation, it already is, but at the same time it is not over yet. We all have more struggles ahead. But the time will come when that eternal rest will be fulfilled, our struggle will end and our joy will end. The seventh day of Genesis never ends, and it will not rest in the future. Then “God’s abode will be with people.” He will dwell with them, and they will be His people, and God Himself will be with them as their God. He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore, for the former things will pass away” (Revelation 21:3-4).
